
Tom Berkhout is Professor of Real Estate at Nyenrode Business Universiteit. His main research fields are tax law, financial reporting, real estate finance, valuation and real estate markets.
He received his Master’s degree in Tax Law and his Master’s degree in Real Estate from the University of Amsterdam. Tom obtained his PhD with a thesis on depreciation and downward value adjustments of real estate at the University of Amsterdam.
He has written many books, articles, columns and research reports on: (national and international) taxation; real estate finance; valuation; financial reporting; integrity; European and Southeast Asian real estate markets; investment analysis; investment behavior.
Other positions
Apart from his position at Nyenrode, Tom is chairman of the Competence Center Real Estate of the Dutch Tax Authorities.
Tom is board member of the Nederlandse Vastgoedindex, board member of the Central European Standards Board of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) and chairman of the Stichting Fundatie Bachiene.
Furthermore, Tom was chairman of the grondwaardecommissie Eeuwigdurende Erfpacht for the city council of Amsterdam in 2015. From 1996 until 2003 he was a member of the scientific staff of the Stichting voor Beleggings- en Vastgoedkunde at the investment and real estate school (now Amsterdam School of Real Estate) of the University of Amsterdam.
